Alley treasure on a pre-dawn walk with the dog.
It’s not hard to go for a pre-dawn walk these days, what with the sun rising around 8:40. I’m thankful for the photographer’s eye that I am developing, as these chilly moments of windchill warnings and snow crunching underfoot are now enlivened by a process of falling in love with the blue light.
I realized yesterday that I am getting the winter blues. I’ve been a little sad and a little listless and a little drained. Thank goodness I caught it early. I’ve adjusted my schedule to sit in front of the full-spectrum lamp for 40 minutes instead of 30 and should see a difference within a few days. In the meantime, I’ll keep focusing on treasuring the small delights around me and on maintaining healthy eating and my fitness. If you get the blues, I recommend looking into light therapy. I used to feel like there was a summer Sarah that I put away with the sundresses. Now I’m the same year round. What liberation. To have energy and optimism even in the greyest, snowiest winters is pure joy.
Very cool picture. Winter blues can be tough! We came from being in an area with 3 feet of snow on the ground for six month intervals to regular rain, poohey! We did have a relatively white Christmas though due to an early snow, so that was nice! I love your pre-dawn walk idea, may have to try that too for the new year 🙂 (and remember to bring my camera along as well) Many blessings to you!
Beautiful picture, Sarah! And I’ve loved viewing your handmade Christmas. What a lovely family you have.
Please, do tell, where did you get the full-spectrum lamp? I could use one.
