The calendar page has been flipped. The month has come. Let swatching and measuring, pattern puzzlement and brilliant adaptations, plain bits and exciting parts begin!
Here’s my swatch for my Ticuna vest. I’m not getting gauge with the Wool of the Andes. I’ve gone down two needle sizes and I’m still getting 19 sts instead of 20. But since I’ve discovered that the vest doesn’t have waist-shaping (the model is clearly working some major negative ease – note the bust area), I’ll be doing math to figure out the shaping and adding in a little gauge math into it seems like not too much work. It’s put a bit of a damper on my plans to roar into the month with a vest passion, but I’m nothing if not determined.
Prizes: You can, of course, participate in this craft-a-long on your own terms. But those of you who knit, crochet, or sew a vest by the end of the month can enter for at least three prizes. I’m not going to be a strict stickler for starting the project in this month. If you’ve already begun, no problem. We’re just having fun and games, after all.
I’ve got some gorgeous yarn, the apparently blogless Goldiegirl has donated the “Folk Vests” book, and my close friend Jen will send a gorgeous multi-strand necklace of her own making to set off your vest-framed neckline. (If you want to donate a prize, let me know.)
To enter, simply send an email with the phrase “Vest-uary FO” in the subject line to poppinsclassical(at the ever present)hotmail(insert punctuation here)com. Please include a link to Flickr, your blog, or Ravelry to show me your vest – more for my own oggling pleasure than for strict checking up on you. If you make more than one, simply send another email and you’ll get another chance at the goodies.
Go forth and celebrate the sleeveless! And don’t forget to join the Flickr group and the Ravelry group.
Hey there, just wanted to let you know that I intend on attempting the vest-uary….but have to wait til the kp’s order comes in 😦
If nothing else, it’ll be fun to see all of the projects, even if I don’t finish! I’ve never knitted anything this big before…I’ll see you on Ravelry for details 😉
Thanks for doing the KAL! It’s an awesome idea!
I will be stocking-uary this month, but I look forward to all the Vest-uary festivities. Happy knitting!
I’m not going to commit to making a vest this month, but it’s on my goal list for this year.
