I am thankful for the ornamental crab apples even though we cannot eat them. The colour they provide and the birds they gather to our yard are reward enough.
I am thankful that I have learned not to take myself so seriously and that I followed my impulse to gather leaves even though I was on a run.
I am thankful for autumnal soups of curried carrots or roasted squash.
I am thankful to have my parents so near (and that they share their apple harvests).
I am thankful for the colours of autumn and the way that they challenge the steel grey skies. I am thankful for Project 365 for reminding me to take pictures of the little things charming me.
Hi! I noticed your pictures on Flicker & wanted to read your blog. I noticed the beautiful crab apples and wanted to comment that they are absolutely fantastic for making some of the most beautiful jelly ever. My grandmother used to make jelly to give as gifts and Crab Apple jelly was the most prized by everyone as it has a wonderful flavor and it makes a beautiful, clear, claret colored jelly. Almost looks like a ruby in the jar. Now that I live in the deep southern U.S. I don’t have access to crab apples so I’m truly envious of yours! 🙂
