“It is not so much what we are taught, but what we are surrounded by, that determines the course of our lives: the music and poetry and talk, the bright cocoon of life that is woven around us.” Julie Keller

Do we give enough thought to the background of our lives – the texture and shape of the setting – or do we concentrate too much on the foreground with its schedules and lists?

I think about this as we tinker away in silence, or sometimes motivate to complete an undesirable task by surrounding ourselves with music. Real life is what goes on in the background, it sets our mood and makes beauty where logistics want to take center stage. Thanks for this lovely reminder.

as someone who struggles to find routine against a background of chaos I suspect you of peering into my life again and poking the sore spots! Thanks!

Good question. For me, the best days are when we can do both. Take the time to see the little things and maybe check some stuff off the list. But open our eyes to the bigger world as well.
Thanks for getting me thinking.
